RICHMOND, Ind. — Three men were jailed Friday after local authorities seized more than $47,000 cash, 57 pounds of marijuana, pills and handguns following pursuits involving two vehicles.
Abdul Wasia Hadi, 32, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was lodged in the Wayne County Jail on preliminary charges of Level 2 felony dealing Oxycodone, multiple counts of Level 4 felony possession of a firearm by a serious violent felony, Level 5 felony dealing marijuana and Level 6 felony resisting law enforcement.
Talut Ishmael Furqan, 33, and Subtain Masood Raja, 30, both of Kansas City, were jailed on preliminary charges of dealing marijuana and illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, all as Level 5 felonies.
Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Smarrelli attempted to stop two vehicles about 1:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 70, according to Sheriff Randy Retter in a news release. The vehicles were driving together in an unsafe manner near the 149 mile marker. The vehicle driven by Hadi stopped, but the other did not.
Smarrelli requested other officers locate and stop the second vehicle, the release said, and as he approached the stopped vehicle, Hadi sped away. Smarrelli began a pursuit that went throughout Wayne County while Hadi was throwing items out the window. The items were later found to be clothes and guns.
The pursuit entered Randolph County, and Hadi crashed on Bloomingsport Road near C.R. 650 South. Hadi was taken into custody without incident and was found to have an extensive, violent criminal history and active arrest warrants in Canada.
A search of Hadi's vehicle found 57 pounds of marijuana, $47,620 in United States currency, $9,070 in Canadian money and 328 Oxycodone pills, according to the release. Nine handguns were located along roadways Hadi traveled.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations is reviewing Hadi for the possibility of federal charges.
Richmond Police Department officers later located the second vehicle on Mendelson Drive in Richmond, the release said, and Furqan and Raja were arrested.
Wayne County Emergency Communications, RPD, Wayne County Drug Task Force, Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police, Canadian authorities and the FBI's Safe Streets Violent Gang Task Force assisted the sheriff's department.
